“Covered by the blood, covered by the blood

All my sins are covered by the blood

My iniquity so vast has been blotted out at last

And my sins are all covered by the blood.”

Does anyone actually remember this song?

Again, an awkward and antiquated phrase- “covered by the blood.”

The 2022 version of the Church seems too modern, too materialistic, too “me-ish” to have any interest in investigating such “long-ago”language.

And, therein, lies the reason for weak worship, worldly values and spiritual warfare without any victory.

Language unlocks hidden truth and releases anointing and authority in our struggles against enemies sworn to our overthrow and defeat… such power is found in this puzzling picture - “covered by the blood.”

These words sound strange to the western mind- set; but find its meaning and majesty in the Hebrew text.

Leviticus 27:11 (key verse of entire book)

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

ר

kâphar kaw-far'

A primitive root; to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel: - appease, make (an) atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, to pitch, purge (away), put off, (make) reconcile (-liation).

The soul needs atonement - a covering for our sins -

The graphic imagery is discovered at Noah’s ark.

Genesis 6:14 KJV

It was pitched with bitumen (tar)

“Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.”

It’s safety and security was guaranteed by the covering (the pitch) that kept the water of wrath, the deluge of destruction out.

So the blood of Christ is the “propitiation” for our souls.

1 John 2:1-2 KJV

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

The Greek word for propitiation is atonement … covering.

I make no apology for the word study- we must discover that the blood of Jesus is the propitiation, the atonement, the covering for our souls without which there is exposure to God’s fire and fury.

Herein is found our eternal security for salvation, our efficacious covering protecting us from God’s coming judgement.

Yes - under the blood’s protection and provision. Beyond Satan’s power, beyond Sin’s penalty - covered by the blood.

What has this got to do with 2022 … EVERYTHING!

We need to resurrect the practice and prayer of yesterday’s saints … Cover me, cover my family, cover my future, cover my heart and home with the powerful, protecting, propitiating blood of the

No warrior of darkness, no weapon of destruction, no words of demonic origin can prevail or prosper against the Believer who is covered by the blood.
