A Christian View of 2022 - #21

Have you ever asked “why?”

2022 has given us plenty of reason to do so.

Just so much loss, so much suffering, so much pain … Covid, conflict, conspiracies -

That’s enough for the searching question.. WHY?

It’s a question that comes from the soul when the unimaginable, the unthinkable pushes its unpredicted reality into our lives.

When reason cannot wrap its arms around the wound - “why?” becomes the default response of the human heart.

When tears travel down the wrinkled face and lips quiver with shock and unspeakable emotion - “why?” becomes the sound of a sobbing soul!

“Why?” takes on earth-shaking, emotion- erupting power in Matthew 27:46 NLT -

At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Have the past months given you cause to question? Has “why?” found its way into your mind (though maybe never spoken from your mouth) ?

It’s okay! Your “why” carries you to the cross.

“Why?” anchors itself to the Rock of Ages.

When answers are not to be found anywhere on earth, and the soul cries the “whys” - God hears! He is not angry or annoyed- He hears in the silence of your suffering.

1. We don’t have to pretend

He has given us permission to express it.

God’s righteous commands are not violated when we are victimized and vulnerable to the wounded “Whys” of life.

2. We don’t have to contend with it.

He has given us peace to experience

God’s righteous conduct is never unjust.

3. We don’t have to defend it. He has given us power to endure

God righteous character is not in danger because of the human experience.

So, no matter what you’re going through or what’s going through you - remember:

that He is…

that He cares…

that He is a “very present help in time of trouble.”
